06 — Pi-Gateway MASTER v1.0

8 GB microSD card · 2026-08-22

Do not boot this card. It has been scrubbed of its SSH host keys and machine-id so that every kit cloned from it generates its own. One boot re-mints them and quietly undoes that. If you need to look inside, clone the image to a different card and boot that.

This is the golden master. Kits get cloned from it; it is not itself a kit and never goes to a customer.

What is on it

Raspberry Pi OS Trixie, 32-bit Lite, fully updated, plus the LHI stack: cloudflared, ser2net configured for the PLC serial port, the WiFi profiles, the USB WiFi drop-in, the self-test and its status page, and the one-command per-kit provisioning helper.

Built 2026-08-22 by running build-master.sh on top of the 2026-08-22 base image, then scrubbing and powering off without booting again.

32-bit ARMv6, so it runs on a Pi Zero W V1.1 and a Pi Zero 2 W alike.

The image

pi-gateway-master-v1.0.img on the shop server under ShopCad, shrunk, with a SHA-256 recorded alongside it. That file is the artifact that matters - this card is just one copy of it. Burn it to any card 8 GB or larger to make another.

Burning a kit from it

Burn the image, boot it, and run the single per-kit command that gives the kit its own tunnel and its own SSH identity. No Imager customization, no per-kit hostname or password - the identity is baked in and shared on purpose, so there is nothing to look up.

One thing that looks wrong but is not

A kit built from this reports two packages available for upgrade. They are the 64-bit kernel packages, which cannot run on this hardware at all and are deliberately held back. Zero would actually be the surprising answer. Do not chase it.

When to replace it

When the LHI stack changes, or when the patch level drifts far enough that a fresh build is quicker than updating fielded kits. Build a new master rather than editing this one - the whole point is that it is reproducible from a script.
